Free typing practice that adapts to you

TypeQuake is a free typing game that turns typing practice into something you actually want to open every day. No install, no account, no ads in the middle of your training: you open the browser and play. Six game modes cover the whole journey, from your first touch typing lesson to a full-speed typing test.

Take a typing test and know your WPM

The Sprint 60s mode works as a classic typing test: one minute of real words, and at the end you get your WPM (words per minute) and accuracy. Most people type around 40 WPM; 60 to 80 is strong; past 100 you are in the top few percent. Your best run is saved as a ghost that races alongside you, so every typing test doubles as training. Curious where you stand? See the typing speed test guide and WPM levels.

Learn touch typing from zero

If you still look down at the keys, start with the Classic mode: an on-screen keyboard lights up the next key and shows which finger owns it, exactly how touch typing is taught in typing school. Ten minutes a day is enough. The full method is in the touch typing guide, and when your speed plateaus, how to type faster covers the seven levers that actually move your WPM.

What makes TypeQuake different from other typing games

Most typing practice sites give everyone the same lesson. TypeQuake has an engine, Nemesis, that measures your error rate and hesitation on every individual key, finds your three weakest keys and builds surgical drills against exactly those. Add an arcade storm, a zen mode, a daily challenge, a keyboard heatmap, levels, achievements and a progress curve, and typing practice starts to feel like a game you come back to on purpose.

FAQ

Is TypeQuake free?

Yes, 100% free, no account and no install. Open it in the browser and start training.

Do I need to install anything?

No. TypeQuake runs in any modern browser. All you need is a physical keyboard.

Can I use TypeQuake as a typing test?

Yes. The Sprint 60s mode is a one-minute typing test that measures WPM and accuracy, and it saves your best run so you can track progress over time.

How many WPM is a good score?

The average is around 40 WPM. 60 to 80 is strong, and 100+ is elite. More important than speed is keeping accuracy above 95%.

How can I type faster?

Accuracy first: stay above 95% and speed follows. Learn touch typing so every finger owns its keys, stop looking down, and practice a little every day. The Nemesis mode speeds this up by drilling the exact keys that slow you down.

How does the Nemesis mode work?

While you play, TypeQuake measures the error rate and hesitation on every key. Nemesis uses that data to find your 3 weakest keys and generate personalised drills against them.
